Fragments 
frag·​ment ˈfrag-mənt 
: a part broken off, detached, or incomplete. A small part broken or separated off something. 

As visual artists, the work we create can often be perceived as fragments of ourselves:  individual pieces that reflect our voices, our experiences, our explorations. When I think of the word fragment I am reminded of the principle of gestalt, used in both the fields of Drawing and Psychology to describe how the human brain fills in gaps to perceive and make sense of an organized whole. 

Each teaching artist represented here brings their own unique talents, experiences, and creativity to this community. It is the coming together of these fragments, these individual pieces, that makes for such a rich visual experience and that makes this department vibrant. While each body of work tells a story, we invite you to find meaningful relationships between them to unlock a bigger picture or message that resonates with you.
